Studying in Lithuania and LCC International University: an English-taught route in the Baltics

Lithuania rarely appears on a Vietnamese family's shortlist, which cuts both ways: fewer applicants competing, but more that you have to verify for yourself.

Where Lithuania sits

• An EU member state inside the Schengen area, so qualifications and mobility sit within a shared framework.
• Part of the Baltic region, bordering Latvia, Belarus, Poland and the Kaliningrad exclave.
• Living costs are generally lower than in Western Europe — the most practical reason international students look here at all.

Higher education programmes in Lithuania are assessed by SKVC, the Centre for Quality Assessment in Higher Education. That is the body to check against for any institution in the country, not only this one.

LCC International University

• Based in Klaipėda, a port city on the Baltic coast.
• Taught entirely in English — no Lithuanian is required to enter a programme.
• Positions itself as a "North American style university in the heart of Europe", built on a liberal arts model: core courses across the social sciences, natural sciences, humanities, mathematics and fine arts alongside the major.
• Students from more than 50 countries, with small average class sizes.

Who the liberal arts model suits

This is what decides whether LCC fits you. A liberal arts curriculum spends real time outside the major, which suits someone who has not fully settled on a direction and wants to keep options open, or who is aiming at work that rewards writing, analysis and cross-cultural judgement.

If instead you want a deep technical programme and to be inside your specialism from the first year, the same model will feel diluted. Better to know that now than a year in.

• Check your intended programme against SKVC records to confirm its assessment status.
• Confirm English language requirements, current tuition, and costs beyond tuition.
• Read the residence permit rules for non-EU students and the work rights attached — these are Lithuanian rules and they change.
• Ask about internships and employment outcomes for your specific programme, not the institution-wide figure.
