The University of Wollongong (UOW) has published the bursary and scholarship rates that apply to its 2027 intake. The notable point for Vietnamese applicants: several of these are granted automatically on nationality, with no separate scholarship application.

UOW College

  • ELICOS — 30% reduction: automatic for Vietnamese nationals.
  • Foundation / Diploma — 20% reduction: automatic for Vietnamese nationals.
  • Nursing Diploma — 10% reduction: automatic for international students.

Undergraduate and postgraduate at UOW Australia

  • 20% bursary: automatic for Vietnamese nationals.
  • 30% undergraduate scholarship: assessed on a Year 12 grade average of 8.5 to 9.0.
  • 30% postgraduate scholarship: assessed on a bachelor's grade average of 8.5.
  • 100% undergraduate/postgraduate scholarship: offered in selected intakes only, not every intake.

Progression to a bachelor's degree

  • Foundation / Diploma to undergraduate — 20%: automatic for Vietnamese nationals.
  • Foundation / Diploma to undergraduate — 30%: applied for after completing the UOW College programme.

Which awards are automatic, and which need an application

This distinction is easy to miss. Awards marked automatic are applied by the university once an application qualifies — there is no separate scholarship file to prepare. The 30% progression award, by contrast, is assessed after you complete your UOW College programme, so it belongs in the plan from the start rather than as an afterthought.

The same applies to the two merit awards: 8.5 is the deciding threshold, so if your average sits close to it, which transcript you submit can change the outcome.

Read this carefully

  • Not every programme is covered. UOW notes that some programmes do not carry the bursary or scholarship, and that the 30% postgraduate award does not apply across all courses.
  • The 100% award depends on the intake. Do not build a funding plan around it before the university confirms it is open for the intake you are targeting.
  • Percentages apply to tuition as defined by the university, so the cash value differs by course.
  • Terms can change at UOW's discretion. This article records the rates published for the 2027 intake; the binding terms are in your own offer letter.

Next step

Send us your transcript and target course and VNIS will check whether that programme is covered and which band you fall into. If your course is excluded, we will say so rather than let you plan around an award you cannot get.
