Financial evidence: what Vietnamese families can and cannot easily produce
Financial documentation requirements written for one market often ask Vietnamese families for something that does not exist in the form requested.
In this article
Financial evidence is where otherwise strong applications stall, and frequently the problem is the requirement rather than the family.
Where requirements and reality diverge
- Income documentation. Family income in Vietnam often comes from business activity rather than salaried employment, so a request for payslips may be unanswerable for a family that is entirely able to pay.
- Holding periods. Rules requiring funds held for a set period are met more easily by some families than others, and the requirement is often discovered late.
- Sponsor relationships. Extended family support is normal and may not match a template that assumes a parent sponsor.
What institutions can do
State the requirement in terms of what it is trying to establish โ that a specified sum is available for a specified period โ rather than naming one document type. Then list the acceptable forms of evidence, including the ones common in Vietnam. Applicants can satisfy a purpose; they cannot manufacture a document that does not exist locally.
Where the immigration rule ends and yours begins
Separate the two explicitly. Families and agents routinely conflate an institution's enrolment requirement with the destination's visa requirement, and plan for the wrong one. Saying which is which saves weeks.
