Weber State University: tuition, scholarships and what is new this intake

Weber State University is a public university of the State of Utah, based in Ogden — at the foot of the Wasatch Mountains, about 30 miles north of Salt Lake City. The university has just issued its international guidebook for 2026–27, along with several changes worth knowing if you are weighing up a US degree.

The number to compare first: tuition

Non-resident tuition sits at about USD 17,567 for an academic year (fall and spring semesters, student fees included), per the table published in the university's 2026–27 guidebook. Above 59 credits the figure is USD 17,967.

That is what makes Weber State worth putting on the comparison table: at many US public universities, non-resident tuition alone runs well past this. Housing is published just as plainly — Wildcat Village, the community-style halls, runs USD 3,950 to 6,672 for the academic year, while the University Village apartments run USD 6,080 to 6,424. All rooms come furnished, with wifi, laundry, utilities and 24/7 on-call support.

Meal plans, priced per semester, come in four tiers: Weber Basic USD 1,950, Wildcat Experience USD 2,475, Weber Full USD 2,700 and Weber Complete USD 3,325.

Four scholarship tiers, awarded on your grade profile

The international office awards four-year (eight-semester) academic scholarships based on your grade profile. The four tiers published for 2026–27:

• Louis F. Moench — USD 8,000 a year (scale 60–100; GPA 3.2–4.0 for transfers with 30+ credits)
• H. Aldous Dixon — USD 6,000 a year (scale 40–59; GPA 3.0–3.19)
• Aaron W. Tracy — USD 5,000 a year (scale 20–39; GPA 2.8–2.99)
• William P. Miller — USD 4,000 a year (scale 10–19; GPA 2.6–2.79)

To keep an award year on year you must take 12 credit hours per semester and hold a 2.5 WSU cumulative GPA. Families budgeting for the full degree often miss this: the scholarship is not a one-off grant, it is something you have to hold on to.

What is new this intake

Per the letter from Ioana Vulpe, Director of International Student Recruitment, dated 26 August 2026:

• A Master of Mechanical Engineering opens for enrolment this semester.
• Several accelerated master's tracks now let international students complete a bachelor's and a master's in five years.

The five-year route matters financially: it removes roughly a year of tuition and a year of living costs compared with taking the two degrees separately.

Programmes and scale

The university runs more than 250 degree programmes, from associate level through to four doctoral degrees — including over 120 bachelor's degrees, 32 master's degrees, more than 50 certificates and over 90 minors. Six colleges span arts and humanities, business, engineering and applied technology, science, health professions, and social sciences and education.

Class scale: the student-to-faculty ratio is 20:1. In Fall 2025 the university enrolled 33,293 students, of whom 17,507 were matriculated degree-seeking, and more than 850 international students from 71 countries.

Working while studying, and after

International students may work on campus for up to 20 hours a week while studying. After graduating, the university's material states students can work in the US for up to three years depending on the major — that is OPT plus the STEM extension.

On research and internships: 130 students presented at the Fall 2025 Research & Engagement Symposium, and 222 at the Spring 2026 symposium.

Who Weber State suits

Taken together, this is worth considering for families who want a US public-university degree with costs they can actually control, and for students with solid rather than exceptional grades — the four tiers start at a 2.6 GPA, so the band under consideration is fairly wide. On the other hand, if you are aiming at top research universities or need a very specialised field, check the programme list before you commit.
